Here's To September!

I told Homer I thought the wall was tall enough to keep the dogs in. Millie hopped up and landed on the ledge like a graceful cat. Guess I was wrong. He went up another 3 rows.

September 1....

Zucchini pasta... I do believe I could eat this everyday.

Shredded the rest of the zucchini for bread this winter.

Froze about 20 bags.

More fill... two summers is enough. Wishing we were done already!

I literally gag on green beans from the can, but fresh... delicious. I'm going to try and grow more next summer.

September 2....
You guessed it... more zucchini.

Daisy followed me up to the front yard. When I clean out the beds it's the one time of year she gets to roam about the yard.

Pretty spunky for six years old.

She loves petunias.

The boys unloaded the more railroad ties for the retaining wall.

September 4....
This has been a busy month. I'm finding days that I haven't taken a photo. Catching up will be good. I'll be more conscious about getting out the camera.

Off to school.....

To The Birds

I thought I'd do a quick post on the poultry to show you what I've got. They always think they are starving and run to greet me at the gate. It's almost impossible to walk without stepping on someone.

I have three Buff Orphingtons that were given to me by Wendy. They are about 2 months older than the rest. Nine Light Brahmas survived the raven attack. I can't wait until all these ladies start laying me eggs.

This is Rupert the Giant White turkey. He is Homer's turkey and we were going to keep him since he was a Survivor, but by the way he waddles already it's obvious he isn't meant to be a long-term pet. The other turkey is my Royal Palm hen. I haven't given her a name yet. I'm sad the other one didn't make and she's basically on her own. Next Spring I'll order a couple more to keep her company.

I have one Silver Seabright rooster and three hens. There are two Buff Black Tailed Japanese hens.

The Rosecombs are by far the most friendly birds in the yard and are easily caught by the kids. There are three roosters and two hens. Only one Splash Silkie survived the power outage on their first day here, and I'm not sure what the sex is.

I have three rooster White Black Tailed Japanese. Very unfortunate there are no hens. So much for my breeding program. The Golden Laced Cochins have three roosters and two hens.

This is what happens when there are too many roosters in the hen house.

I realized Daisy is a sheep and not poultry, but I couldn't leave her out. She needs another bath, but her yard is dirt so she'd be a mess right away anyhow.

Sunshine and "Hidden" Mickey

Up and at 'em at 6:00am. After I got Elijah off to school I sat down next to a pile of puppies by the hot fire. Aren't they cozy? Nice place to read the morning paper and have some coffee. Loaded the dishwasher, did a little cleaning and then got to sewing while everyone else was fast asleep.

Look at Miss Daisy soaking in the sunshine.

Lots of shadows across the front yard.

I would have like it to be a little warmer, but I guess that isn't coming for a few more weeks. It was awfully windy so it felt even cooler than this.

There's my greenhouse waiting for a new "coat of plastic". I can re-do the plastic each spring for twenty years for the same cost as sheeting it. Hopefully some day, but for now this will work just fine.

Lucas fresh out of the tub.

I finished the apron and had a willing model to show it off to you. I made this for a pay-it-forward project so now it needs to get into the mail!

Olivia's bedtime snack. *~*~*Tink*~*~* can you find the hidden Mickey? :)

Ended the night watching Four Christmases and blogging. It's sneaking up on midnight so I'd better start heading to bed. Hope your day was a great as mine!!

Billie's New Coat

Billie was moved inside with the ducks and chickens when it got below zero. Daisy has been lonely in the yard by herself, but she gets too warm inside. Lori at The Skoog Farm sent Billie this coat so she could go out and visit Daisy for awhile. I was really surprised that she cooperated with getting dressed. I am quite sure Daisy is thankful for a friend, and Billie is thankful to be warm. Thanks Lori!

Daisy's New Digs

Last night Mr. White brought home the boom truck to swing the new shelter into the barnyard. Daisy, Billy and Bob watching closely.
Lowering it into place...Daisy's New Digs was originally gray. I painted it brown and just started the flowers on the side.

Billy and Bob ran right inside and stood there. I think they were very excited. Daisy didn't show a lot of interest, but I'm sure she'll like it, too.

Super Sunday

Sunday turned into work day at our house. Here my dear husband is spending his only day off drilling fence posts. (Emily and Lucas up on the deck, Elijah skateboarding).
My job was to clean out the area that will be for the goats and sheep. I took the photo after I had already started (note pile on the left). Yes, that light colored area is *poop* from the ducks, geese and turkeys. Ewwww!

Miss Billie
Things are finally growing, but not fast enough for me! The tomato plant in the white pot has several clusters of tomatos. All the others have flowers. :)
A friendly game of ball...Elijah's shot went in...
Nick driving for the basket...Nick's height advantage proved a bit too much...11-7 the final
