Thursday Thirteen: Random Thoughts

Thirteen random thoughts....

1. The neighbor got a satellite dish. Did you hear me? A SATELLITE DISH! You know what that means? That means the mountain IS NOT in the way, and I can get one, too. I bet the waiting list is months long.

2. I fully understand that a satellite dish is going to suck my family into the television even more, keeping us from other meaningful activities. SO WHAT. In the darkness at -40 with nowhere remotely fun to go it will be nice to snuggle in and watch a skateboarding competition or turkey hunting or quilt making or whatever happens to catch our interest. Besides, I'm not sure we did any meaningful activities in the first place.

3. How many little black sunflowers seeds does one Chickadee need to get through a winter? It seems every time I look out the window the feeder is empty. They are busy little guys.

4. My darling husband put gas in the mower for me. I told him that two days ago the leaves on the lawn really bugged me. Yesterday, they were mildly irritating. Today, I'm wondering how much I really care. If I hold off by tomorrow I will think they are pretty. Procrastination really does save you work.

5. The house if so messy. A disaster. So should I sew my aprons, sew Olivia a dress, knit or make scrapbook pages? The house will just get messed up again anyhow. (See how easily I can talk myself out of doing what should be done. It's a gift.)

6. Sesame Street is really annoying this morning and I wish I was listening to something else. Waves hitting the beach would work. The sound of shifting ice as I pull a Cor.o.na out of the cooler. The squawk of a tropical bird looking for a snack. See where I am going with this? I really need to live some place tropical that doesn't have snakes or bugs. Right. Like there is any such place. In my dreams, baby.

7. I just love this little dog sitting in my lap. Ruby is so tiny. So loving. So happy to see me. Wish I could say the same about my teenagers.

8. I must move really slow or ALL OF YOU have slower clocks in your part of the world because I don't get how so many people home school, can 782 jars of "what's lying around", organize and plan everything possible, create wonderful projects, read, blog.....ALL IN ONE DAY. I think they make it all up. Honestly, there are not that many hours in a day, and I'm not that slow. Am I?

9. I shovelled half a dump truck load of gravel yesterday. Several yards I suppose. I think I'll go shovel the other half. Don't want a big mound in the yard all winter. The borough assessing people stopped by yesterday. The lady asked if I shovelled all our gravel. Yes. She said I must be very strong. No, not really. Just lacking a dozer. I'm sure there have been other family members who helped shovel, but I just went ahead and took all the credit anyhow. I pick up their dirty socks. They owe me.

10. The most scary sound in the world? The silence of toddlers.

11. I need to call the vet. Roscoe, Ruby, Molly and Sally need shots. Rusty needs neutered. Won't he just love that? I suppose that will all be around $500. Ack. I choked on my coffee.

12. Hello! The sun is shining! We've got to get outside before it goes behind a cloud. Of course, looks are deceiving. I was out just a minute ago with the dog and could see my breath. Brrrr.

13. We've almost hit birthday season. One in October, one in November, three in December, one in January, one in February, one in April, one in May, one in August. Oh, I guess it is birthday season all year for us! Well, it's those few really quick together that kick my butt. Trying to plan parties around sports and holidays is about impossible. Couldn't we just have one big bash at the end of April when NOTHING is happening. Would that be so wrong?

Happy Thursday. What's your random thought for the day?

You are SO true about the silence of toddlers. I work in a school with 3-6 year olds...oh my gosh, if it's quiet you better BET there's something fishy going on!

I'm the oldest of 7 kids, and we have birthday season too! We have three in February, one in March, one in April, one in May, one in June, and then two in the fall. I love big families! :)

After nothing but fuzy broadcast for several years I went back to cable. The "meaningful" activity that reduced fastest? Fighting between the kids.

#3 - maybe you have other types of critters that are eating them. I once had a feeder on a pole, and squirrels used to climb the pole and take all the seeds.

So I, um, greased the pole with Vaseline. Hah! It was like watching the flying trapeze at the circus! LOL!!!!!

Tink *~*~*, who is probably going to hell for laughing at the poor squirrels

LMAO...My kids thing I'm crazy now..sitting here laughing at my computer screen :-P
I wouldnt survive winter without a TV..there are some who enjoy being out in -0 weather..Im not one of them..I prefer curling up around my wood stove and watching tv shows about warm places. It makes me happy.
Remember..sesame street is annoying..but it could be oh so much worse...my children loved the teletubbies..I still have nightmares about scooters and purses and tu tus and wake up singing the theme song...
I don't know how people do it either...maybe they have an overdrive gear that we don't?? Notice that since I started homeschooling I rarely blog...and don't ask to see my house..because OMG..how can 3 kids make this much of a mess?????
Great TT..and I LOVE the sunset picture..that is absolutely beautiful! It rivals the sunsets we used to see when we lived in FL..I totally understand the "melting into the water" ... very cool..glad you got to capture it..I always forget to throw my camera into my van :-P
