June 16-20.....
Father's Day... pretty kicked back. Dad napped with Lucas and that was the only photo I managed!
Monday (6-17) I drove to Anchorage with Olivia and Lucas. The air conditioner is broken in my truck, it was in the 90's all the way down and open windows did nothing. Absolutely miserable drive.
There's my girl. I was talking her to meet Grandma Claudia to fly out to Nome and then drive the 60 miles to Council to visit at the summer cabin for a few weeks. She comes home tonight. It's been 23 days too many and I have missed my mini-me so much, but it was a good for her to spend some time with her grandparents. We only see them twice a year for a few hours when they are traveling from Oregon to Nome and sometimes not even that. I'm sure she has lots of stories to tell and made some good memories.
We ate lunch at the Peanut Farm right before we dropped her with Grandma. At this point I was starting to feel really horrible. I'd had a cold for a week or two and it finally settled into my chest. My throat was burning. It was awful. After lunch I laid around Dorene's the rest of the day (missed Emily's soccer game, but Homer took her to it).
Lucas spent his time playing Wii which thrilled him as our controllers have been broken for about 6 months.
In the morning we headed back. Lots of road construction.
Again, it was hot and miserable. My throat was on fire and I hurt. I didn't make it half way before I had to pull over and sleep. It was a very long 360 miles before Lucas and I got back home.
Thursday morning I felt much better, but still didn't do anything other than watch Emily play soccer that night. I don't get sick too often and I don't think I've ever had a summer cold. So glad that it is gone now.

That was a long drive all by yourself, even if you had been feeling well.
I think it's very good for kids to have time with grandparents. I remember feeling special whenever I spent the night with my grandparents.
One long holiday, an even longer drive, way too much in one trip. Hope the rest of the hols go as well. Take care, cheers from Jean
Glad to hear you are feeling better Gayle. I also had a summer cold that lasted a couple of weeks.
What a great time for Olivia. I'm sure, like you said, she'll have plenty of stories to tell.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Eugh! Nothing worse than trying to drive long distances whilst sick :-(
Glad Olivia got some grandparent time....
