Old School Popcorn and Stuff

Where do the days go? It's already Friday!  Wednesday Emily and I taught Olivia how to play Yahtzee.  Livy and I played again last night.  I can't believe how quickly she caught onto the concepts of large straight and full house.
Then we went out for  a little fresh air.  We put Millie in a harness just to see if it is worth working with her this summer (getting used to wearing it).  She's only 8 months and obviously too young to do any real pulling now, but she did pull the little ones down the driveway a few times.  The sound of the sled behind her made her nervous, but I think she has real potential.  Em and I are hoping she'll be able to pull both little ones next winter while her and I walk.  It will get us out of the house so much more.
I thought showing Emily the "old school" way of making popcorn would be fun.  You know, it wasn't quite like I remembered.  First I had too much oil, then not enough, then I had way too many kernels and popped it full twice, then we added way too much butter and salt.... did we eat it?  Sure we did, but it took three days (it was awful)!  I think now I'll be able to make the right adjustments to have a good bowl of popcorn.

Em's friend gave her a special pen and light.  You can write on yourself and it is invisible until you shine the light on it.  She's showing her brother Nick how it works and he is making a "tattoo".
Only two days and the Dahlia's began to sprout.  Yesterday I had a meeting and the entire day was lost.  Today is panic mode in the gardening world.  I have 1000 seeds sprouting far more than this that need put into dirt.  In fact, Nick offered to come home after school and help me.  My teenage son wants to garden with his Mom....hmmmm...I think he wants something! :) That's okay, I'll take what I can get...at least it will be a good time to visit.  Today is going to be a busy one!
When I downloaded my photos it seems as if the Wee People were using my camera when I was gone.  Flower was the model.  She's such a cutie!
Hoping for a good weekend.  It still gets cold at night.  Down to about -20*, but during the day the sun warms it up to 0* (more here in the hills).  I'll be glad when those night temperatures quit falling. It's been a long, cold, snowy winter.

*edited* Well, now that I've said that I see the weather channel says it is (in town) -28* with a real feel of -40* (wind) so I guess I have no idea what I'm taking about.  I'm on a hill so there can be up to a 20* difference between here and a couple miles down the road plus the winds are never the same.  My thermometer say -4* and I'm not going out to check the wind!  Like I said, it's been a long winter.

LOVE the "old school" popcorn!! I used to have an old pressure cooker that I used to make mine. Not as a pressure cooker, but because the pot was so thick and heavy. I think that's a key component to making it work. That, or one of those reproduction crank poppers!
Yes, Flower is a cutie! Nice close up shot.
Millie is getting so big! I'll bet she'll be pulling both little ones next winter!

That's a great picture of Flower! You could hire the kids to take photos for your blog and pay them in cookies!

One of the teachers at my school played Yahtzee with her class of 4th graders. Only 3 of them had ever heard of it. Sad huh? I remember coming home from Elementary school for lunch and my mom and her friends would be playing it. It is our favorite camping game. Carson loves playing with Grandma!

You can make popcorn without a microwave?! It's been so long, I almost forgot that.
