Followers

There will be no photos tonight. I'm tired, it is late and I just don't want to deal with the camera.

But I will tell you about what I was "doing" with my followers.

Sometimes I randomly click on my list of followers, read their blog, make a comment and maybe that will keep them reading me. You know, 'cause I like comments, too. Or I might start following them if it grabbed my interest.

Anyhow, over a couple days time I clicked on every follower (80) on my list. Let me tell you what I found...

35 have current blogs

9 haven't posted within a month, but have in the last year.

4 hadn't posted in over a year.

2 hadn't posted for over two years.

1 hadn't posted for over three years.

28 of the profiles didn't list a blog. Now I know at least two of those profiles do have a blog because they are friends of mine. So...if you want people to read your blog you should list it on your profile!

Other tidbits of information: 20 had more than one blog (not saying they were current, but the url was used up), 1 no longer existed at all, 4 were in foreign languages, 6 were private, 1 was non-human (yes, I have a dog that follows me) and one of my followers has two profiles that go to the same blog....therefore technically it should only say 79 followers, not 80.

So there you have it. I used to get excited when I got a new follower. I used to hope for new followers all the time. The reality of it is that even a blog with 500 followers is misleading...more than likely over half of those done exist or don't blog anymore (not necessarily meaning they don't read blogs....that I don't know...they just aren't blogging themselves).

Anyhow, it's probably a bit of useless information, but I found it interesting. If you comment...I'll come read your blog. If you follow me and have a blog on your profile I'll check it out. But I won't be holding my breath anymore. :)

So the gist of it is...I won't look for or anticipate or be bummed if there aren't new followers, but I will check you out on occassion and I'll leave a comment...if you let me know who you are.

Gayle...can't believe you were able to fit all that in with your busy schedule! Very interesting stats. I have a handful of people whose blog address does not show up too. I don't know why.

That was interesting. Lately I've had a couple of people 'unfollow' me and that was kind of a bummer, but I know that some just might not be interested in what I have to say, so that's that.

Hope you have a great week Gayle.

I'm with you on that. I blog for the love of it, not for publicity.

We were watchign TLC lastnight and we saw Sarah Palin's new show being advertised. My husband wants to watch it and I refuse...that woman drives me batty! Anyway I said if I want to see pics of Alaska or read about it I can go on Gayle's blog...lol.

Shame on me. I don't comment on here nearly as often as I should.

I have been lacking in my blogging lately. So many things going on in our life right now, nothing for anyone to worry about, just stuff we have to get through, but it really puts a damper on things when you are trying to write about the funny parts of your life!

I love reading your blog, I love when you post pictures of the Moose, those humongous salmon, the otters and even the worms. And Daisy! Can't forget Daisy!

I'm especially grateful that you share your day to day life with us and your beautiful family. The love you have for your husband and children comes through to your readers.

I'm going to make an effort to be a better blogging buddy, it's the least I can do for the enjoyment I get from reading your words!

Besides, no matter what, no matter how long your day is, or how exhausted you are, you always manage to find the time to comment on my blog!

Gayle, I read and enjoy your blog every day! I don't have a blog and I probably never will. . . However, my daughter, granddaughter and I did a trip report last summer while we were on Sanibel. Does that count? LOL

Yes, these are interesting stats. I don't have that many followers but I do know that several are foreign. One is a duplicate, plus that person's blog(s) are private and I've been locked out of those. I have a small base of true followers that leave comments pretty regularly. That's enough to make me happy. I've also noticed that I seem to have a stalker. I get LOTS of hits every day from the same place (Tucson) and whoever it is never leaves a comment, which is a little eerie if you think about it because my blog just isn't that interesting!!

I love your blog and your way of thinking in this crazy world. You are a great photographer of what matters most the things you love and care for. I do think many have gone to facebook because it takes less effort. But sometimes I peek into your part of the world silently but appreciate you none the less...

Wow that's really interesting! I don't think I am technically a "follower" but I subscribe through Google Reader. I tend not to pay attention the number of followers my blog has but now I'm curious about the followers' blogs!

Hi...I've been reading your blog for a year-ish. I have no idea how I ended up here. Probably linked from someone else's blog. I don't blog personally. I do however find your blog fascinating. I'm not really sure what I find so exciting...maybe that you're life is so different from mine. But you are by far my favorite blog. I always save your blog for last...just like dessert!
