Skies on Friday

Crisp frosty branches
Ice barely touched by the sun
Quiet winter scene

This time of year the sun in very low in the sky. The rays do not make it over the mountain to reach the ground in my yard.

They just reach the tops of the trees before fading away. I miss my sun.

The skies are crisp and clear today. With the bright blues comes the cold temperatures. It is -16 F here in the hills at my house, but in town it is -28F.

Friday Skies

Participate here...
and here!

At 8:05am this morning, while waiting for the bus, Emily and I looked up and saw the eerie moon framed by Halloween ghosts.
If my son's car wouldn't have busted...if he didn't take my car to school...if my camera wasn't in my car...if I didn't borrow my daughter's little camera...if the batteries would have had life for more than one shot...maybe, just maybe, this would have been a lot better photograph. Such as it is you will just have to know it looked really cool from where I was standing.

Skies on Friday

I don't see a whole lot of beautiful sunsets from my home. They are nothing like the ones Tootie shares from Sanibel, but once-in-awhile the sky lights up. Apparently, the sky was on fire last week and I was in the house missing it all. I stepped out to catch the tail end.

Then, like tornado chasers but not near as exciting, we jumped the car and tried to follow the setting sun.

It was gone within minutes.

Looking back towards home were the dark blue skies of twilight.

Skies on Friday

The rain gently falls
down blanketing the warm earth
creating a fog.

Giant flakes of slush fell from the sky last night cooling our world into a fog.
So much for spring!

Haiku Skies

Not one single cloud
as far as the eye can see.
Beautiful bright blue!
(alternate ending: It is damn cold out!)

My Skies on Friday

Tish brings us Looking at the Skies on Friday. Won't you play along?
It's crisp, clear and sunny....and look...someone's leavin' on a jet plane! (Yes, the miscellaneous black squiggles and dots is my camera screaming "have me cleaned"!)

Looking at the Sky on Friday

I was sitting at the computer and saw a yellow glow out the window. My heart skipped a beat and my first reaction was that the upstairs was on fire. I ran to the door to see the most beautiful golden skies. Of course, it was perfect for Sky Watch Friday.

The sun was coming up where you see the bright glow down the power line.

The sun reflected on the clouds giving the yellow glow to the snow below. It felt like I was standing in the middle of a dream world.

The sun isn't really hitting the tops of those trees...it's just the light bouncing all around from clouds to snow to clouds again.

And, of course, I couldn't just pick one photo to share! Again, the bright spot in the sky is just reflection...the sun is actually coming up at the bottom of the photo over the hill.

(Yes, that would be my Halloween scarecrow next to my Christmas tree. Uh, maybe I should get out and do some work in the yard! :)

Our wondrous 85 degree weather change due to the Chinook winds that have blown in I now have this in my yard!

We've gone from -45 to +40 in just a couple days. Of course, we still have tons of snow, but around the house where the water is dripping off the roof puddles are forming. Puddles with ice underneath and all around. While I enjoy walking outside without a coat on, it sure is a mess. No worries, though. This is Alaska. The temperature will drop down. It will snow more. We are months away from Spring. Excuse me while I go out and bask in the warmth we have now!
