August 1st.... Catching Up!

I put up more wood. The never ending project. Normally we wouldn't gather wood at this level. The stove doesn't heat the house, but is more for comfort. We're cutting a lot of trees down on the property so there is no sense in wasting them.

More soccer! I miss watching the kids play. We had soccer 3-4 nights a week all summer.

Swimming at 7:30 at night. Those days are long past as it's too cold to swim.

Banana Peppers

Anaheim Chile

Hungarian Hot Wax

Jalapeno

Bell Pepper

My corn!!

Dark Zucchini

Grey Zucchini

My only photo of the broccoli. The plants were 3 feet tall (as well as the cauliflower). I took this photo at 9:12 pm and in the morning the moose had eaten it all to the dirt. No veggies and no pesto for me this winter.

This is at 11:30 pm. Not a great quality photo, but I liked the way the "sunset" was reflecting on the pool.

And for something a little current. I woke up this morning to frosty grass and beds full of mushy brown frozen flowers. Fall has officially arrived and we all know how short that season is for us here in the North. I've got a lot of hard work to do over the next few weeks (if I even get that long). Trying to embrace this with a positive attitude, but I know how tired and frantic I'm going to be.

Trying to answer a few questions:

They are old watering cans along the wall planted with coleus.

I can't shoot the moose.... it's a cow and we can only shoot bulls unless you have a special permit plus my house is in a bow hunting area only and none of us are certified. Hopefully we'll get a different one into the freezer!

I do start all my plants from seed in my grow room starting in late February. I put in months of work to have my yard all blooming and I love it. I guess when you enjoy it so much it isn't really work.

I haven't done any jarring this summer. The cucumbers were dismal. I am freezing carrots and zucchini for bread and need to dry the peppers for use this winter, but that's all this year. Everything else was eaten fresh.

Daisy did get trimmed this year and I did it myself with my new dog clippers. Worked better than I imagined. She was so white and pretty and then immediately went and laid in a pile of dirt! Silly sheep. I'll try to remember to get a photo of her soon.

Your garden produce is great, and a first frost, suddenly you are so close to winter. Long daylight hours, love the reflection in the pool. And specially all the flowers along your long fence line. A great show for you and all who go by. Greetings to all, Jean.

Gayle ~ You are one hard worker. What you do makes me feel like a wuss.

Can't believe you've got frost and mush flowers now. Wow. How long was your growing season? It seems like you just got going.

Have a great week ~ FlowerLady
