Dance the Night Away

I am the kind of person that plans timing down to the minute. If a meeting, appointment, drop-off or pick-up is at 2:00, I arrive at 1:59 and walk in at 2:00pm. Being late is rude and being early wastes my time (not that I don’t waste time a zillion other ways, but this is my messed up thought process). Scheduling my life as such does not leave room for detours, accidents or stopping to smell the roses (so to speak).

I have seen some beautiful sunrises/sunsets lately and a few Sundogs as well, but I “have somewhere to be” and can’t pull over. So this is what you get. A hurried shot through the front windshield on my way to get Lucas. I think it’s time for me to learn to stop and smell the roses.  See the sundog?

Thursday night I had an itch to bake a ham (which I ended up smothering in that gravy it was so good). Had a great dinner planned which pretty much flopped. Elijah didn’t want ham, Lucas won’t eat meat (for the most part), Nick was out and Homer came home with the flu and went straight to bed. Olivia and I dined together so all was not lost.

002

Nick showed up later with two of his buddies to crash here. Yes, they ate the whole pan of brownies., but I got to hang out an hour with them. Small price to pay. :)

Last night Mr. White wanted to go out to dinner (he’s feeling better and I have a gift card I need to use), but Olivia had other plans. It was Family Dance Night down at the school and she thought we should go. When starting that second family at 37/38 I never gave much thought to the idea that at 44 I might be exhausted from dealing with teenager stuff all day and not have the energy to dance the night away. I sucked it up and went. Bottom line is Olivia and Lucas deserve the same energetic Mommy that Nick, Elijah and Emily had.

I’m so glad I did! I danced with my kids for two hours! It didn’t matter that I’m fat and not the “hot mom”. I survived my husband having to leave half way through to go back to work (that sucks on so many levels). I even survived being in the same breathing space with my HEX because he never actually stood up or moved the whole two hours so I didn’t have an unwanted encounter.

I need more of this and less meetings, lawyers and courts.

008

Emily wasn’t there with me, but she was a good enough big sister to dance with her siblings before joining her friends. Lucas was thrilled! (And later her and I did the electric slide! Remember than one?).

There’s Smiley!

These girls danced up a storm! My photos are kind of crappy, but that’s okay. I didn’t want to be tied to my big camera…this was about doing the Congo line in style! (And a little Latin cha-cha-cha with the cutest 5-year old ever!).

This friend came home to spend the night with Olivia and they are still fast asleep. I woke up at 6:00am which completely bums me out. I had full intentions of sleeping in this weekend, but my body said otherwise.

It’s quiet…just me and sleeping puppies. What to do?

What a fun night! I LOVE the electric slide. You always amaze me with the fab dinners you make on top of everything else you do.

I remember the school discos! I was about your age at the time too :-) (but no gnarly teenagers to deal with then...). Glad you had a nice night. You needed a break!
(Oh and now I know what a sundog is. Thanks!).

Lovely sun dog. I've never gotten a shot of one.
A Family Dance Night is a great idea. The kids sure look like they're having fun.
