Crazy Busy and It Is Still Snowing!

Look at my Pineapple Tomatoes!  I transplanted them into bigger containers today (this is the before photo).  A week without dirt was more than I could take so my husband brought me home three bags so I could get back to gardening.  Now it is time to play catch-up.  There are a few hundred plants that need transplanted plus a lot of seeds that need started.  It's going to be a busy weekend in the plant room. And it is busy snowing outside. *sigh*
I transplanted 58 cucumber plants today and have many more to do.  I swear there is no consistency in my gardening.  Each year everything is planted and cared for the same.  One year one type of plant will do great and others won't.  The next year it is the opposite. Emily and Elijah love cucumbers so I am hoping to produce more than they can eat to leave enough to jar for the winter. I rarely buy them as they are something like $1.50 each.
Any parent with a child who experiences various levels of learning disabilities can tell you that when they are in school you are in school as well. I honestly feel like I am repeating high school with the amount of hours I put in each week  helping him with homework and studying.  Tonight I made note cards to help him study for an upcoming test. Sometimes I really wonder the importance of what is taught.  For someone interested in science this makes sense, but I'm struggling to figure out why my son really needs to know how igneous rocks are formed. I don't see that as a part of his future.
It's been a crazy busy couple of days. Many hours of daily meetings at the schools finding solutions to meet needs, finding time to devote to the other four children, caring for animals, acknowledging my poor husband who ends up last after everything else is cared for, bed shopping, reading to help my daughter with her book report, attention to upcoming sports, tending to my plants, meeting graduation deadlines, so much paperwork!, court hearings....Spring is a time of rebirth when the Earth awakens from a deep winter slumber and I can tell you first hand the pace and needs of a home with five kids four to eighteen picks up considerably. And the needs in that age range vary greatly.  It can be over-whelming at times, but we wouldn't want it any other way.

And in all that I managed to remember to buy my Ice Classic tickets in the last couple hours of sale.  Each year a tri-pod is raised on the river in Nenana and hooked to a cable that runs to a clock that is manned 24/7 in the final days of break-up.  When the river moves sending the tri-pod on its way the clock is stopped.  If you are lucky enough to pick the month, day, hour, minute and a.m. or p.m. you could win around $300,000 (or share it with other lucky people).  One year my time was 29 minutes before the actual time.  Imagine...that 29 minutes could have changed my life completely.  Kind of makes a person wonder.  So my list hangs on the fridge in anticipation of the big day.  Maybe this will be my year.
I really need this to be my year.

I can't even begin to imagine how busy you are with 5 kiddies...the one 2yr old here keeps me on my toes and I barely keep up with anything else trying to meet her demands.

I am glad you got some more dirt to play in and hope you picked the time this year.

Blessings Kelsie

Good luck with the Ice Classic! That's a nice hefty jackpot. No doubt it would come in very handy in your household!

Hoping this will be your year! What a fun idea. Your plants are insane. I can't believe how big they are already.

P.S. the flash cards was a great idea. I did that with my daughter too. I swear, "I" learned more helping my kids with their school work than I ever did when I actually went thru school myself. I'm still waiting for the day when I will need the algebra I was forced to learn.

It's cool to learn new stuff, but why do we have to have it memorized for tests? That's my question. I mean, can YOU remember everything you had to memorize in high school?
