Nice Day....Big Animals

A few days back I spent part of the work day with my husband. I saw a whole herd of horses (must have been a dozen or so) and took a few photos. This horse was huge although that doesn't seem to come across in the photo. His hooves were almost dinner plate size!

Lori of Skoog Farms has a herd of horses of her own in New York. You should check them out. I'm sure she'll be disappointed to see these guys aren't wearing coats...it was pretty cold and windy plus it was snowing. In fact, we saw several dozen horses throughout the day and none were wearing coats or protected from the elements. I guess care is just different here than there. Anyhow, she has a beautiful herd and they are pampered!

We also saw a cow and calf moose on our drive. They didn't pay much attention to us even though we flew by them, backed up down the road and took a few photos.

A great day with an awesome man seeing some fabulous creatures.

Great shots. If horses can get out of the weather, they don't need blankets as their coats get very thick. Mine are pampered because all but one are near 30 or older and I don't want them to waste their energy keeping warm. The horses in your shots look like Drafts. I wonder if they do logging.

Yes, those are big horses. I agree with Lori - they look like draft horses to me. If they are allowed to acclimate to the cold their coats get very thick. I spent last weekend with my friend helping her curry out her 4 horses. They are shedding like there's no tomorrow! In another week they will be all shiny and sleek!! Sounds like a fun day with the hubby!! Gotta love those moose, too!!

I can't imagine what it must be like to see moose roaming around like that.

Those are some great looking horses! My cousin and her husband have draft horses that they use in logging and enter in the county fair here for pulling. They are some of the gentlest creatures I've ever met.
Looks like you had a great day..is it getting warmer up there?
