Photo Story Friday

You can join in and tell your own story here!

We are on our rapid descent into winter. Fall for us in Interior Alaska is short and chilly. For instance, this morning it was 23 degrees and only warmed up to 40 degrees at my house. We Alaskans love summer with our 24-hours of daylight, and we tend to procrastinate too long into fall thinking that Indian Summer will last forever. This week hubby and I have been frantically finishing up some projects. That is, in between basketball games and homework!

This connex was used as a rough barn last winter for Miss Daisy and friends. I wanted it moved by the pen and made A LOT nicer. My husband is very accommodating.

Here's the corner of the property that I mowed 2-3 foot tall bushes down last week. Then mowed again and again. Then I raked up the debris for the compost pile and threw down some grass seed. I want the green on the left to come around the whole corner.

The connex will sit just this side of Daisy's brown hut outside the fence leaving more area inside for chickens.

Homer brought home a boom truck and leap-frogged the connex down the driveway into place.

Once set on the outside of the fence it was blocked level. It will need to have a door and window cut, siding put on, the inside insulated and sheeted, lighting and a heater. So much to do! Daisy's pen was moved into the other yard to leave this area exclusively for chickens. The fence will go back up and netting will go over the whole area. There shouldn't be anymore problems with stray dogs, ravens or owls!

Not sure why I don't have "end product" photos, but since it is pitch black out right now those will have to wait for another day. So much to do and so little time!

Having property is like life - we have to keep rearranging it. Thanks and good luck before snow flies.

Gayle...You guys are not kidding with these projects. That will be a nice big space for Daisy...the chickens will be happy too.

Wow. That's quite a task. It looks beautiful there. Down south, I feel like we're still far away from fall!

Your chickens are lucky critters to have so much done for them. This was quite a project for one day!

now that's serious business. If you want to get away from the cold, come to SC. I've got lots of huge projects that need attention :) Thanks for the inspiration!
