Green Thumb Sunday

My mom always grew Livingstone Daisy's by the front door. I loved the way they opened and closed each day so I wanted to try to grow some. I watched my mom garden for years, but this is only my second summer with my own garden. I have so much to learn. The seeds grew great, but when I went to transplant the flat they died immediately. Almost in my hands. So I took the rest of the flat out in one big section and planted it without even thinning the plants. They grew! I couldn't believe it. It has rained for a month now. The worst summer I can remember so they are just blooming now. Here's an evening shot after they have closed. Looking at them brings back great childhood memories. This is my first try at stocks. I also grew those from seed. They just started blooming about a week ago. They smell so wonderful, I can't walk by without breathing it in! I remember my mom's being much bigger and fuller, but again, we've had a horrible summer.
Here's my little snapdragons. Last summer I grew tons, but this summer the little guys are struggling. Just this week I finally got a couple flowers. I love their little faces.

My childhood memory flower is portulaca. My mother grew it in a cement urn in the back yard, and it was always blooming in August around the time of both of our birthdays.
