Forty Below Zero and Life Goes On

Saturday three schools had some scrimmage games and referee training from 9:00-12:00. Yes, I was one of those hardcore parents who went out at -20* just to see their kid play for the first time this year. There were about a dozen of us. Maybe less. Then I was there until 1:30 for a Booster Club meeting. After that we went to the phone company for entirely too long. Finally made it home at 4:00pm. Talk about getting nothing done!!

Elijah is in red on the left.
As if it wasn't a long enough day I loaded the two little ones up in the truck and we went back to town. It was the last day for Lucas' to use his free pizza coupon from reading.

Found this idea on Pinterest. Glued mirrors to a silvery shiny ribbon and put it inside the tree to reflect more light. As far as we can tell it didn't make a difference. Save your money.

Homer taught Olivia how we made stars for the tree out of tinfoil and cardboard back in the day.

 This morning....

We've had a cold front move in... as if -20* the last week wasn't cold enough. It's actually -28* at my house right now up from -30* when I put the kids on the bus. Homer has -45* out at his work. It looks like we've had nighttime lows of -20* or more since November 3, but the daytime extremes didn't start until about a week ago. According to the forecast we'll be in this deep freeze  until December 9th when it should warm up a bit and start snowing. Hope so... that would be a nice Christmas break gift.

I have been bitten by the Lazy Bug. So far today I've hauled in a little wood. *sigh* I guess it's time to write out a list so I can check things off. There are so many things to do I don't know where to start so I'm not!!

Speaking of hauling in wood..... do you go out at -28* in just a sweatshirt to fill the sled or is that just us crazy Alaskans?

Wow, 40 below. I just don't see how you guys stand it.

DH and I made Christmas ornaments with foil and cardboard when we were first married.

Have wonderful holidays Gayle.

Oh dear!! In our day we made... and so on and so on...crepe paper banners cut out in fancy patterns, home made cakes, biscuits, fudge( my Dad's favourite) cellophane wrapped lollies, clothes, hand knitted socks, even singlets when I was a child!!! (horror), now it is all for sale in every shop. -40... Wrap up warm, those ice candles will surely set well outside today!! Greetings to all at your place from Jean
