Here Comes the Weekend!

December in Fairbanks, Alaska. Normal and not so bad. I grew up 200 miles East of here in a place called Tok where the temperatures get much colder for longer periods of time. This morning they had -55* F. I'm not complaining. In fact, here at my house in the hills it is only -8*. Yes, only. Embrace what you cannot change.

Yesterday I had lunch with Lucas' class and then sold Smencils during the secondary lunch. It's nice to have the time to give to the school that at one time or another has educated all eight of our children. Some for a couple of years and some for all seven elementary years. After fifteen years it's a very comfortable place for me to be.

With the volunteering comes the neglect of the house. Oh my I have a mess to tend to today while putting up the tree. Tried to have that warm fuzzy family moment last night, but it was a more of a war. Today I'll put the tree together, add lights and garland, and leave the bulbs to the kids. Everyone is happier that way. Are you that family with wonderful tree-decorating memories or crabbing on each other like we do?

Today I'll leave you with five school days of Olivia and Lucas and wishes for a great weekend whether you be hot, cold or somewhere in between may you find the beauty in where you are.

(Fixed his hair after the photo, but I thought it was kind of cute).

Wednesday
The screw fell out of her glasses the night before so she was sent off to school without them. I went right down to get them repaired and dropped them off on my way to the gym.

 Thursday

Friday...Crazy Day at school. Olivia had me paint her nails the colors of the rainbow.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet are the colors of the rainbow.
Colors are everywhere you can see. Yeah, colors were made for you and me!

Her other three fingers were black, white and grey. Isn't she clever?

When picking out her clothes she said, "That's not crazy. It's a good outfit".  She's right. :) Her sister put a glitter tattoo on her face and she had wild hair.

Lucas has his nails painted red and green for Mario and Luigi. His Angry Birds shirt is on backwards and we have a sad attempt at a Mohawk. That was as crazy as he wanted to get.

I'm making Finnish Candles or Swedish Candles or Ice Candles.... whatever you may call them. They freeze pretty quickly at -10*, but I want 50 of them. I wish I had saved all my ice cream buckets as this is going to take too many days. I have lights and plan to put them down the driveway.

Now.... about that tree......

Ice Candles!!! I looked at youtube, and they are just wonderful, I can see them all at your place, Great Mon-Fri snaps. And I think it is a bit cold at 0F and VERY cold at 20F. I need to swallow a cement pill and harden up!!1 Greetings to all at TWH, from Jean

The photos are cute. Ice candles sound wonderful.

I'm thinking about our tree, but haven't done anymore than that. :-)
