Work Work Work!!

Yesterday, I woke at 5:45 AM with my husband. I did not, however, start moving until 6:30 AM. I am a night owl. I don't go to bed until 1:30 in the morning most nights. Let me tell you it was a long day. I've either got to be up late or get up early....I'm too old to do both!! (Same bed time, but up at 9:00 today...that couple extra hours sure matters!).
While starting my day cleaning the kitchen I had plenty of silence to think about "stuff". One of the things I was trying to work out was how to accomplish more in one day while still spending time with the kids. I did not find a solution. Our to-do list is just too long. Add to that five children and I'm sure you can figure that it does not compute. Just the little things in life suck up time....like making Popsicles and washing eggs. Every day. Do you do this? (Yes, after two days they've already lost one of the tops. It must be here somewhere).

The tomato side of the greenhouse. Everyone knows we got a late start due to construction of the greenhouse, but things are still coming along (if only the sun would shine!). I've learned a lot already. I'm pretty sure the plants could have been closer adding a couple more. (The Sweet 100's - closest - look just horrible!).

Can you see the teeny tiny start of a Cherokee Purple? It's the little things in life that make me smile.

Most of the plants have a few flowers so we should get something before Fall comes our way (which is never far off).

In the center bed I have zucchini, cucumbers, jalapenos and tomatoes.

These were started from seed quite late, but seem to be growing quickly.

The leftover cucumber plants stuck here to fill space. Next year things will be a lot more planned out.

Mmmm...can't wait until we are eating them!

The bell peppers have lots of flowers, but no sun and the greenhouse drops too cold at night. The siding isn't finished on two sides so it doesn't hold heat as well as it should. Maybe this week we'll get it finished.

The cucumber and pepper side of the greenhouse. The cucumbers look so small in the photo, but really things are growing along nicely. Maybe the fact that the greenhouse is so big (27' feet long) is what makes everything look so small.

Here's the kinds of things my man does when he comes home from a long day of work right after eating and spending time with his kids.....a new watering system. (Every night it is something off the to-do list). Dragging the hose in the greenhouse is a pain plus the water is ice cold. I now have a barrel to fill. While I  use it faster than it gets "warm" at least it isn't like ice!  The other night Homer wired an outlet, dropped in a pump and now I have 50' of smaller, easier to move hose to water the greenhouse with. I think I will take this system up to the front yard for fertilizing.

Emily worked really hard yesterday  helping set up her greenhouse. We mixed perlite with the soil for her containers.

She also painted her planter box. As my husband comes across them she'll add boxes until her greenhouse is full. It will be a work in progress for awhile.

Olivia also painted a box, but I forgot to take the done photos. Emily doesn't want it in "her" greenhouse so I don't know where it is going to go now. Maybe out front of the greenhouse?

I can't even tell you how many hours I spent cutting "leaves" off this net and it doesn't look like I've done anything. What a time consuming project!!

We used the trailer to haul things up to the greenhouse. We also hauled up the box and buckets of mixed dirt until the bugs drove us in the house. I cannot ever remember bugs driving me inside. This year has been horrible.

Lucas had soccer practice at the park and the girls played. I had my camera, but forgot to take it out of my pocket!!  When we got home the kids rode bikes and we talked about the chicken coop netting. Dad put up one section to see how it is going to work. Again, no photos. We sure do a lot in one day, don't we? And it never seems like enough.

Then we settled in to watch the Voice. I mean, you can only work so much, right? :)  Do you watch the show?  I am cheering for Beverly. I love her powerful voice, but what do I know? I can't sing at all!!
