Skies on Friday

Click on the meme photos for a link to the site.

A couple weekends ago we set off a little late for Valdez (363 miles from our home). We had already stopped so many times for photographs so I tried to get the setting sun on the fly.

To my right the skies had a nice pink glow,

but to my left the moon was full.

We watched the skies and moon for about ten miles and then came to a spot where everything reflected on the water and I just had to stop.

I took about fifty photos and nothing seemed to work the way I wanted. I tried every setting I could to capture the actual light in the sky, but most of the photos ended up being trashed. Obviously, the sky was not purple, but I found this setting produced a very pretty photo. I really should learn how to use my camera!

I love the snow-covered mountains. I think that made the whole photo. I should note that I would have stood there a lot longer trying to get the settings right, but an impatient teenager was yelling from the truck wondering if we were ever going to get to Valdez. We didn't end up getting to our hotel until almost 2am. Let me tell you, in the middle of nowhere Alaska without houses or street lights things get very, very dark.

I love all the photos of the sunset on the fly. The purple one is fun and different.

You have beautiful photos. Especially I like those, where I see the mountains and the full moon.

The lake in the first is so nice. The clear northern waters act as a mirror, and the remaining light of day is reflecting well - as if there is a mirror that is still illuminating the surface. A beautiful state that has wide and bright skies!

No matter what settings you used, these photos are great, even on the fly. Love the colors and the moon's reflection. Teenagers are like that.

Those moon reflection shots are wonderful!!!!

They make me want to run out and take shots of the moon here but it just wouldn't be the same...no beautiful lake for the reflection. I'll just have to live vicariously through you instead. :)
