Northern Lights

Aurora was dancing in the sky in a bright green dress tonight. We pulled over to the side of the road to snap a couple freehand shots. I really needed to use a tri-pod, but you get the idea.

Here's a shot with the flash. See the end of my Excursion?
Here's the same exact spot without the flash. I'm headed up Chena Ridge and the lights you see are Fairbanks.

Sorry, the quality of photos isn't better. Tonight was supposed to be light activity and then moderate activity is expected over the next four days. I'll see if I can use a tri-pod and timer to get a better photo.

Thanks for putting up these shots. Magical.
We had aurorae we couldsee when on the island but we never saw that kind of curtain. You are a good 12degrees further North than us.
How do you find time to blog?

Oh these are gorgeous - one of my dh's life goals is to see these for real. Doesn't happen in London - and we don't get those dark skies either.

Thanks for sharing :)

That is so cool. I've nver seen (or heard) of this. Probably because nothing exciting happens in the midwest

You are so lucky to be able to see those. I haven't seen the northern lights since I was a kid in Michigan.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love the photos - not the SNOW in the photo - but the northern lights! ;-) I saw them when I was a kid but not in years. They are amazing.

Oh wow, what a treat! Thanks for sharing them. Must make worth living in the dark and cold worth it a little, to see stuff like that.

Seeing the aurora in Alaska is on my '50 things to do before I die' list -- thanks for reminding me why!
