3-on-3 Street Ball - Fairbanks Style

Today was the first day of the 3-on-3 State Basketball Tournament in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska. Second Avenue is blocked off, street hoops are set up and the games begin! There were 92 teams in divisions from as little as 3rd grade up to Elite Adult players. Elijah teamed up with Forrest, Scooter and Tyler in the 6th-7th-8th grade division.

I forgot to get a shot of the whole street as there are multiple games going on at once. (I'll try to remember to tomorrow). Games are to 20 points or thirty minutes long. Elijah's team won both of their games today, but they were matched up against some smaller, less skilled boys. There are some teams in this group that are all 8th graders with facial hair! Probably not something the boys can compete with, but they are having fun anyhow. Today was the round robin and tomorrow begins the single elimination. Their first game is at 11:30am. It was blistering hot. I saw a sign reading 81 degrees at one point. This very pale person is a tad on the sunburnt side!
This is what I came home to at 4:00pm (sorry about the reflection, I wasn't paying attention). A little under 2% humidity and 81F.

My poor garden is so thirsty and I'm going to bed without watering it. I'm just whipped. See ya later...

i'm amazed you have so little humidity - we have at least 50% on most days in hania, with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius most days in summer. this is an eye opener to me, as i thought alaska was a damp place given that it snows in winter (but i guess i've learnt somethign very interesting today!)

I crave your lack of humidity. Which is odd because during the winter here there is absolutely no humidity and then I'd do anything for some.
The games look like so much fun! The second photo is a great action shot. Let us know how today goes.

We see your knees! :D

I'm in SW Florida, where we've got plenty of humidity - want some?

And how is the duck?

Hey Gayle, I woke up yeaterday morning and 2 of my blogs were just GONE! I have no idea why, they are not even in my list of blogs on my profile. One was my stories which I wish I had of backed up, but didn't. I have my son here from out of state this weekend, but will reopen Celebrate tomorrow if Blogger can't help me get it back. Thanks for asking.

I *complain* about being dry, but not sure I would find the humidity that fun so I'll pass on sharing! The duck is still alive...not sure how, but she is. I put down a big dish of oatmeal and she eats it. I'm not sure if she is still very weak or if she suffered a spinal injury. Still, when she trys to walk it is more of a wobble, scoot and wing flapping shuffle.

Every time the girls have any kind of recital or game it makes me teary eyed.
You'll have some great picture to look back on these hectic times!
